Davis Plumbing and Drain Service has compiled a list of ways you can conserve water in your home.
Back to the Basics
First are some of the basics many of us have heard for a very long time:
- Don’t allow the water to run while shaving or brushing your teeth.
- Fix leaking or running faucets, toilets, and shower/tub fixtures.
- Stop using your toilet as a waste basket.
- Sweep sidewalks and driveways rather than hosing them off.
- Reduce the amount of time the water is running in the shower and reduce your overall time in the shower.
Some Additional Things to Consider
Here are some ideas that you may not have thought of but are still just as simple to put into practice: - Only run your dishwasher and laundry machine when they are at capacity, avoid running them half full.
- Purchase and install water conservative faucets and shower heads.
- Keep water in the fridge in a pitcher or bottle to avoid having to run the tap for several seconds to get cold water.
- Adjust yard watering systems for the season. Plants do not need as much water in the fall and winter as they might in the spring and summer.
- Fill your sink with water to rinse dishes rather than leaving the water running.
- Use a bucket to hold water while washing the car rather than allowing the hose to run or attach a sprayer nozzle that allows the water to be shut off when not in use.
- If you have not replaced your toilet in more than 10 years you may be flushing money and extra water away. High effeceincy toilets have come a long way - Give us a call to learn more.
